Summer Things

Summer is coming to an end.  Well, as much as summer can come to an end in Southern California.  I have to admit, I’m ready for these humid and warm days to be gone and the crispness of Fall to take its place.  Here are some activites we have been enjoying before the long days are gone…

The Autry Famers Market

Our goodies from the Autry Farmers Market

Sweet Treats from Bryan’s Garden

Enjoying Cold Locally Brewed Beverages and Great Friends on the Deck of Golden Road Brewing

PANCAKES AT THE GRIDDLE (Which is actually an any kind of season activity)

IT’S YUGE

Hope you are enjoying these last days of summer as much as we are!

Britt

A Saturday Morning at The Autry Farmers Market

Thank you Jess for not throwing this flyer out when you found it in our mailbox:

Last Saturday morning we hit up The Autry Farmers Market. It was so lovely walking around all the booths admiring the fresh and locally grown goods. The mountains as the backdrop was also a plus.

DELICIOUS hummus from Brothers Products

Some of the goods

If you are in the area (which is right accross the street from the LA Zoo) you should check out The Autry Farmers Market. Every Saturday morning from 8am-noon. And we didn’t get to try the Mimosa Bar… YET.

LUV,
Britt

Jess and Andy say “The Autry Farmers Market is SO FUN!”

Atwater Village Farm

Can you imagine a store that you can go to and buy all locally grown and organic produce for an affordable price? What about a place that has classes with experienced gardeners that can teach you how to grow your own produce? But wait, it gets better!  What if this place even showed you ways to prepare various foods so you can get the most out of  your produce?

All this will soon be a reality in the Atwater Village community thanks to Piper Goldstein.  She has had a dream for awhile that is finally going to become reality late this summer when the first phase of the Atwater Village Farm opens.  We all know how hard it is to get to a Farmer’s Market that one day a week for the couple of hours that it’s open.  But she is going to create a “permanent” farmers market in Atwater Village full of all locally grown and organic products.

It all started when Piper began her own farm in her backyard three years ago. Starting with a small corner of the backyard, Piper has grown her farm to cover all of the backyard and the front yard as well.

Fresh from the morning dew!

Some tools of the trade.

With years of experience in the culinary world, an apprenticeship at a farm not far from Los Angeles, and a community that is completely supportive of her efforts, Piper has surrounded herself with great connections to help make her dream a reality. You can read more about Piper HERE!

Now that you’ve read about this interesting lady and her mission the question is: How can you help?

First off, get the word out! Pass the Atwater Village Farm website to friends and family, local or non-local. Post it to Twitter, Facebook, or your blog.  Bring it up to people you meet around the city and in coffee shops. Do what we all do best: talk.

The second thing you can do is check out their Kickstarter Page HERE.  We all know the economy isn’t in the best condition right now, but even if you donate $1, you will be supporting something that will influence so many people in such a positive way.

The third thing is the Atwater Village Farm is holding a bake sale on Sunday, June 26th. This is a great place to eat some delicious goods made by people that are helping out in anyway they can. The LA QueenPins will be providing some scrumptious treats for the sale as well. All proceeds will be going towards the budget they need to keep this amazing process going.

If you’re interested in baking some goodies for the bake sale, please e-mail Patrick O’Donnell at:

patrick@atwatervillagefarm.com

Any help would be so appreciated.  The LAQP’s are extremely excited about what Piper is doing in the Atwater Village community and we think you should be too.  She is a strong female with a fantastic head on her shoulders and is one of the most selfless people we have ever met.  And one day we hope to see all your lovely faces while shopping for groceries at the Atwater Village Farm!
