This weekend admittedly started off a little rocky. Friday night, Jess and I had our monthly dose of “Wine & Records” which mostly turned into a horrible head and belly ache the next morning. Of course that next morning, Bry and I had tickets for the Tim Burton exhibit at LACMA. I embarrassingly wasn’t feeling in tip-top shape, but the exhibit was phenomenal, nonetheless.
I have been a huge Tim Burton fan since I was a wee lass. Actually, probably when I was too young to really understand his work. I used to be OBSESSED with Johnny Depp growing up, so when Edward Scissorhands came out, I made my parents take me to see it in the movie theater. I had to be taken out of the movie towards the end because I was crying hysterically when everyone, in my words, started “being so mean to Edward.” I don’t even know if my parents brought me back in the theater for the end…
Then came Batman Returns. After my Johnny Depp phase, I became overally obsessed with all things Catwoman and Michelle Pfeiffer. What can I say? I have an addicting personality. I even rocked the Catwoman Halloween costume TWO years in a row. And of course after that came The Nightmare Before Christmas… To say it lightly, Tim Burton was a huge part of my childhood and a large reason why I moved out to LA to work in the movie biz.
The exhibit was a lot different then I expected. Much more personal and much more fantastic. Full of his own scrapbooks, doodles, artwork, and props from most of his movies (THE CAT SUIT WAS THERE. THE REAL CAT SUIT WAS THERE.). All from his private collection. Of course you could not take photos in the exhibit, completely understandable, so all I can do is convince you to travel to the West Side and see it all yourself. The price of admission is a little steep ($20 at the box office and $22 if you purchase online) but the exhibit is quite long and that price also includes the rest of LACMA.
The Tim Burton Exhibit is at LACMA until October 31st, so that gives you almost two whole months to get your booty there for some good ol’ fashioned Burton-esque art.

After we finished the exhibit, Bry and I enjoyed strolling around LACMA for a bit.
Unfortunately, we didn’t look around too long because my dumb self was still feeling icky. I needed food. And quick. So what better cure for the hangover blues then a nice greasy burger from Swingers Diner? NOTHING!

The next day we traveled to one of our favorite little shops in Burbank: Rocket Fizz! Filled with every soda pop and candy you can think of.

If you have ever wondered what I would look like with a beard… (Made with the Mustache Machine application).
