And We Celebrated A Birthday…

This weekend was a very special gals birthday, and we celebrated it right!  Pretty jewelry from Kendra Scott (my first Kendra Scott experience!), yummy brunch at Momed, and a screening of Psycho at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Mel’s post about Kendra Scott got me all kinds of excited to head to the newly opened store in Beverly Hills. And I couldn’t wait for my turn at the Color Bar!

After the intense jewelry making session, we headed over to Momed for brunch… And I totally had another Blackboard Eats 30% off deal. Not too shabby.

And last but not least, another trip to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for some scary movie viewing pleasure. Psycho was the film, and damn is it brilliant. And not to mention, watching it on a mortuary wall makes it all the more fun.

IMC: The Encore

IMC: InstruMental lyriCism.

ENCORE: The French word meaning again, some more.

HIP HOP: A form of musical expression and artistic culture originated in African-American and Latinos communities in the 1970′s in New York City {Bronx}.

TALENT: Jonard Nelson.

The IMC: Encore was performed Tuesday night at West Hollywood’s Bar Lubitsch.  It wasn’t your typical hip hop performance setting; but the crowd soaked up all the lyrics and flow and what we were left with were raised hairs and chills.

I’m not one to be throwing around compliments and pats on the back.  If you are good, you are good, and you will hear it from me.  With this being said…. Jonard is good.  He has a way of putting together the right words and creating something that can truly be defined as art.  With out even knowing, you find your self rocking your head to the beat and throwing out the occasional “Wooo!!!” (at least I did)

I would like to see anyone jump up on stage and spit some rhymes, be backed up be an equally talented band, and still strut around with swag.  Not many can.

The best part of this performance would have to be the drive and love for the music.  I’m a huge hip hop fan, referencing much of my life to Brown Sugar , it’s refreshing to see a friend and a coworker express himself through the music, and the support that follows it.

Do your self a favor and purchase the album now.  You can find it here.

And I’ll leave you with my favorite hip hop quote…(Common)

…lookin’ for cheese, that don’t make her a hoodrat…

Lemonade Downtown LA

This Downtown LA lunch spot of the day is a special one.  As I mentioned before, I have been trying to get to the restaurant Lemonade, and today it finally happened!  And in an ironic turn of events, I did not order any lemonade.  But I did get a tasty, delicious sandwich, and this place sure does live up to the hype!

Lemonade
515 S Flower St
Los Angeles, CA 90071
(213) 488-0299

Mozzarella, Tomato, Basil, Sherry, Focaccia

Lemonade has locations all over LA, not just downtown, so choose the one closest to you and have a LEMONADEY DAY! And if you do go, let me know how the beverages are and which one I should try the next time I go.

Vermont… Restaurant, Not State

I’ve said it a million times:  BLACKBOARD EATS IS THE SHIZ!  I can’t tell you how many awesome restaurants I have tried and how much money I have saved using it.  Sunday, the boy and I decided to treat ourselves to a super swanky date night.  We got dressed up in our best and we even valeted the car!

We decided on Vermont Kitchen & Bar in Los Feliz.  And I just happened to have a 30% off dinner deal through, you guessed it, Blackboard Eats.   We wanted to try this particular spot because of the lovely atmosphere, location, and the menu looked too scrumptious.

Vermont Kitchen & Bar
1714 N Vermont Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90027
(323) 661-6163

1st Course

Main Lobster and Crab Cakes

Salt and Pepper Calamari

2nd Course

Pan Roasted Scottish Salmon

Goat Cheese and Truffle Ravioli

The food was incredible. The most tasty ravioli I have ever had my entire life. But the best part was the price! With our Blackboard Eats discount, our meal went from $85 to $55! AND we each got an alcoholic beverage too! Pretty cool, huh?

If you are looking for a “hawt date” spot, a romantic night out with your sweety, or even a nice dressy dinner with friends, I think Vermont Kitchen is the perfect place.

Britt

EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA!

We also stopped by a new bar this weekend! It’s a newly opened joint in Echo Park called Mohawk Bend and is in an old Vaudeville theater. We only stopped in for a quick drink (72 beers on tap! BOOM!), but plan on going back to try the dinner menu.

A {FUN-TABULOUS} weekend

The only reason why we ask other people how their weekend was is so we can tell them about our own weekend. ~ Chuck Palahniuk

I don’t know Chuck, but I do know that after reading this quote I caught my self smiling a bit.  In a way it’s true.  We are selfish beings, and while I personally do enjoy hearing what other people did on their weekend, if I had a fabulous weekend, I want to tell everyone and scream it from the highest mountain top!

With that being said… how was your weekend ?

My weekend was filled to the brim with fun LA based activities, friends, delicious food, and way too many pictures.

Home made blueberry scones kicked off the weekend right.  The perfect light breakfast before heading out to the Sunset Strip Music Festival, where we saw Cobra Starship, Matt & Kim, BUSH, Public Enemy, MOTLEY CRUE and sooo many more amazing bands.  One in particular that really stuck my interest Jordan Cook.  The perfect mix between rock and blue and AMAZING guitar solos.  I get chills just thinking about his performance.

Finishing off the weekend with some home-made Gumbo, Pizza, and Blueberry Pie.

Taco Pizza! yumzors!

Hats off to you weekend, another one for the books.

Guns and Meatloaf, A Little Midwest In LA

This weekend, I did something I never even did when I lived in the Midwest.  SHOT GUNS!  REAL guns!  At a REAL gun range!  AHHHHHH!  The only other range I had ever been to was a golfing range, and they are a smidge different.

Myself and a few friends went to the LA Gun Club to do a little research for a short film they are going to begin working on. I have to admit, it was TERRIFYING. We found ourselves in a room full of strangers, each one of them holding a gun and at any moment could go crazy and shoot you or shoot themselves.  Ok, maybe it’s not that bad.  But it was still pretty insane.  Standing there (in my dress, by the way) holding this life ender in my hand.  But I do have to say it was exhiliarting and got my adrenalline pumping.  If you need to get some agression out and want to be La Femme Nikkita for an hour, I think you should make a trip down to the LA Gun Club.  Great for parties!  Tee hee ;-)

*NOTE: Brittany does not support gun violence or guns used out of a controlled and safe environment.

The Tools

We're doing it! Yes... I'm short. Thank you for noticing.

Did it! Got that slutty zombie in the hair a few times.

After shooting guns, your tummy is in need for some yummy grub. After Jess’ post last week about HOME, Bryan and I had to go. What a quaint little spot on Hillhurst in Los Feliz! We sat outside, enjoyed the weather, and thoroughly enjoyed our HOME cooked meal.  See what I did there?!

MEATLOAF. PHENOMENAL.

Bryan and I also tried out a new bar AND a new restaurant this weekend, so stay tuned for a post about those as well!

Britt

Downtown Lunch Spot of the Day

Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten lunch from many new/good places this week :-(  Boo!  BUT I did get to have my first Corner Bakery Cafe experience the other day, and I loved it!  It is more of a “chain” restaurant (A LOT like Panera Bread) and I have been itching to try it for some time now.  I would go back in a heartbeat!  I suggest checking out the website and finding a Corner Bakery Cafe near you!

Corner Bakery Cafe
801 S Figueroa St
Los Angeles, CA 90017
(213) 239-0407

Poblano Fresco on Poblano Cheese Bread + Baby Carrots

Mmmmmmmmm

Have any downtown lunch recommendations?! PLEASE, tell me!

By the way, I’m trying to get to Lemonade. I hear parking is AWWWWWWFUL, though. Maybe in the next few weeks I will take a big girl pill and just deal with it, because I hear it is superb!

Sawdust Festival – Summer Edition!

About a month ago my friend Christine told me that she had a Groupon for half off tickets to this artist’s festival down in Laguna Beach called the Sawdust Festival. She was trying to figure out who to take with her and apparently I was number one on the list because this place was right up my alley.

Well, she was correct!

Saturday morning we all piled into Christine’s car and made the trip down to Laguna Beach. Sawdust is a a showing/fair type thing of local artist’s in Laguna. These artists all set up little booths and sell their handmade goods. There was art, clothing, lots of jewelry and our favorite booth, Made in Heaven by Missy. Made in Heaven was this fairy Wonderland of adorable little hair accessories and all things fairy inspired.

We ate ice cream and delicious food while strolling the grounds. The artists were incredible and it was wonderful to be in a space with so many handmade things. Very inspiring!

Find out more about Sawdust HERE.

Since you all probably this the summer edition because you didn’t know about it – it’s held again for the holiday season and you can bet we’re all going back!

Wearing some of the artists’ creations with the artist!

My piece of Heaven by Missy!
