This weekend was full of big events. I would have to say the biggest of everything was the fact that on Saturday history was broken. ALL FOUR OF THE LA QUEEN PINS WERE TOGETHER. AT THE SAME PLACE. It was unbelievable and magical. We met up for brunch at the Mustard Seed in Los Feliz. Great and friendly waiting staff (which is one of my favorite things) and the food was absolutely delicious! The prices are good too. It’s kind of a too good to be true restaurant. If you do make it there, I highly suggest getting the potato salad as a side. To DIE for! We also saw Mr. Adam Levine (the lead singer of Maroon 5) there. He sat about 10 feet away and I watched him eat his lunch like a weird stalker. I used to have the biggest hard on for this man back in the day, so it was pretty awesome.
You can check out their website here and I suggest you stop by sometime.

Saturday night I volunteered for a phenomenal charity event called What A Pair. It is a night full of female celebrities singing duets and raising money for breast cancer research. My grandmother had breast cancer, so this event was very dear to my heart. I can’t tell you enough how good it is to get involved in volunteer work and really encourage everyone to look into it and do it. I have volunteered for so many events while I’ve been in LA and it is so rewarding and it’s a great way to meet amazing and kind people.
At the event I got to work on the pink (instead of red) carpet which was so incredible. I was helping the photographer with getting down shot numbers for people walking the carpet. It was so neat being right next to living LEGENDGS and so many females that were such a huge part of my childhood! And not to mention Patrick Wayne, JOHN WAYNE’S son! He sounded just like The Duke, and that’s a moment when I had to step back and say “Holy crap, this is my life? Yep, this is my life.” Here are some pictures form the pink carpet and just a few of my fave gals from the event.

Lea Thompson was my FAVE! I used to love Caroline in the City when I was little and let's NOT forget those darn Back to the Future flicks! (Photo Courtesy broadwayworld.com)

Anne Heche. I sat and talked with her Nanny and son Atlas for awhile. They liked me. (Photo Courtesy broadwayworld.com)

On Sunday my man and I headed to the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. If you are not currently living in the LA area, you may not know that we have been experiencing the worst heat wave EVER and temps have been in the low 100’s and it’s been awful. So, we decided the aquarium would be a fantastic idea since it’s indoors. Well, did you know some of the aquarium is OUTDOORS? Like the shark tank which is one of the coolest things?! Uggg, it was miserable! And not to mention there was a Hispanic Cultural Day taking place there and it was extremely packed. I have seriously never seen so many strollers in my life. BUT, besides the fact it was ridiculously packed, and the kids and their parents were extremely rude and annoying, it was really fun! I had never been to that part of Long Beach before and it was really nice. If you have a day, I would suggest going, but make sure there are no events going on beforehand because it could be crowded.

In baby news, Keaton rolled over FOUR times in a row yesterday!!!! It was soooo exciting! She is seriously growing up so fast. I think by the time I get back from my trip she may even be sitting up by herself or maybe even crawling! It’s crazy how weekly she picks up something new. I’m going to miss the little lady while I’m gone…
Gone, you ask? Well, tomorrow I head back to the Midwest for the week. I’m excited about all this except for one thing: Getting on a plane. I don’t know why, but I’m extremely freaked out about this plane ride. Dying in a plane crash has always been one of my biggest fears, but this time I’m extremely nervous about flying. Maybe because life’s so perfect right now I’m afraid of risking my life by going 5 miles up in the sky in a huge mechanical beast that could fall from it at any minute. Alrighty, we need to change the subject. But since I will be back in the Land of Lincoln there will be no more post from me for the week! Sorry suckas, but this girl needs a break! That means no e-mails, interwebs (ok, maybe Twitter and Facebook), and I’m going to try to get some R & R in. Have a great week!

Last night I ventured out to Culver City with my L.A. grandmother for dinner. It was for her birthday, so her pick was this nice little French place right on Washington. I had been there once and she had been many times before. We sat outside, drank good wine, and ate a delicious meal. Afterward, the owner of the restaurant came to our table so my L.A. grandma could commend the food, atmosphere, and service. This ended up turning into a 30-minute conversation with the owner (let’s call him Frank) who talked about some things that kind of got me thinking.
He is from France and came to L.A. 12 years ago with a group of French chefs to open a restaurant. He now owns his own restaurant, has his own catering company, and also vacuum seals his cooked meals and sells them on the weekends at different farmers markets. He has a wife who works “in the biz” in casting. Her father was a big time talent agent and started one of the big agencies (he didn’t mention which one) and died when he was 62 from a stroke. His wife and himself have a nice house in Silver Lake and he loves that it’s so far from Beverly Hills and “those” kind of people. It’s their little get away. He can’t wait to move back to France. If he could move back right now, he would. He and his wife went to France for 5 weeks this summer and he said that’s where they reconnected. When they are in L.A. they never see each other. He never even knows what’s going on with her because they work 24/7. This city has “sucked the life out of him.” He came to America with the dream. The American Dream and said he has been nothing but let down. Dealing with people in this city that are so materialistic and worried about money and not the sake of their families or well-being. Yes, you make lots of money out here but most people have no one to share it with because they have spent all their time working and not enjoying life. In a thick French accent “People think life in Los Angeles is so la la la, and blah blah blah. But they have no idea but what they see on the television.” (Yes, he really did say “la la la, and blah blah blah.” It was awesome.)
All of this was true and also horrifying. If you work in film or television, you work AT LEAST 12 hours a day 5 days a week during principle photography. I have friends that are agent assistants and work from 7 in the morning till 9 at night. This business really does suck the life out of you. But if you think about it, any business where you will eventually make a lot of money does. You have to put in all the hours. Schmooze and hustle. Put work in front of everything else including yourself and loved ones. It’s tough. I’m luckily a person with very little means. I don’t spend much money on myself and do not have expensive taste. I would rather spend my money traveling and seeing the world then on a pair of designer shoes. That’s what is so hard to face living in this city. People are so in love with their THINGS. So in love with their APPEARANCE. I knew a person like this for quite awhile. And I can honestly say he was one of the saddest and most pathetic people I have ever met. Sure he had a closet full of high-end clothes, hung out with some D-list celebs, and went to some lame Hollywood clubs. But at the end of the day, he was the loneliest soul I had ever encountered. Devoting his entire life to such rubbish.
I believe everything in life is what you make of it and if you have your priorities straight, you will always be happy. If you surround yourself with good people you don’t ever have to worry about someone using you for the wrong reasons or stabbing in you the back. LA is full of the scum of the earth.
Girls that dress like whores to get their way. Big fake boobs and basically an entire fake face from all their surgeries. Guys that only care about how they are seen with their expensive cars, big muscles, and gooped up hair. What’s funny is all the people like this are usually the ones that aren’t even making anything of themselves. “I went to the Playboy Mansion this weekend and partied with Tom Green!” Ummmmm, ok? Am I supposed to be impressed? Because I kind of just puked in my mouth… The big named people are the ones in the shadows. Hiding out hoping not to be seen and just trying to live their life like any normal person.
Like I said in one of my blogs yesterday, I love LA. It’s one of the most interesting places on the planet. But the advice I can give you if you are thinking of moving to LA or just did: Pick your friends wisely. Always watch your back. And follow your gut. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Oh, and all that shit you saw on The Hills. STAY AS FAR FROM IT AS YOU CAN!

If you don’t know already, my wonderful boyfriend works at Universal Studios Hollywood. This is awesome because that means he gets discount tickets not only to the Universal park, but also Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, etc. and the employees are usually the first people to try out all the new attractions at the park. And since my boyfriend is awesome, I’m always his plus one for such events. A few months ago we were some of the first people to ever ride the new King Kong 3-D and last night we got to experience Halloween Horror Nights for FREE! Woo!
Now, I have a very warped mind when it comes to horror movies. When I was little, I was so scared by the Chucky movies that I believed Johnny Depp lived under my bed and protected me from the murderous doll (ummm, I was a VERY strange child. And completely in love with Johnny Depp. I used to watch Cry Baby on repeat. I’m not even lying). When I was around 12, I was introduced to Psycho (the classic, not the shit re-make) and it terrified me as well. And don’t even get me started on how Tales from the Crypt, Pet Cemetary, and Hellraiser effected my youth. For some reason I loved being scared. I loved the adrenaline it caused. I hated the not being able to sleep and night terrors that I got from it… Worth it? YES.
Still to this day I love haunted houses because they completely terrify me. It’s not the blood and guts spewed all over the place that freaks me out. It’s the unknown. Not knowing when someone is going to jump out at you at any time. They get so close to you with a chain saw or knife and you have no idea how they don’t touch/cut you. Seriously, those people get major kudos from me. I would be the one worker that accidentally cut a park guests arm off. “Oops! Hope you are left-handed!”
Our first stop was of course the “Terror Tram” which is basically the studio tour but instead of actually riding the tram you walk and all of the usual tour attractions have been transformed into gruesome and horrifying scenes! Oh my! And OF COURSE Chucky is your guide! OF COURSE!
Universal has five different “mazes” this year:
1) Saw – Game On: Super fun and creepy! And LONG! It takes you through the most grisly scenes from the Saw films and beware of the smells! Never have I been in a haunted house that used smellovision! At first I just thought someone seriously took a poo somewhere as a joke, but then realized the smells changed as we entered each room and connected with what we were seeing. Impressive!
2) Rob Zombie’s House of a 1,000 Corpses in 3-D Zombievision: Equally as awesome. House of 1,000 Corpses is one of my favorite scary films, so it was fun walking through the scenes from the movies. They give you 3-D glasses to wear through, but I took mine off because it was distracting and I couldn’t tell what was real and fake and it was really freaking me out…
3) Vampyre – Castle of the Undead: Also fun! Not as scary as the previous two, but still good.
4) Friday the 13th – Kill, Jason, Kill!: Didn’t make it to this one
5) Nightmare on Elm Street – Never Sleep Again: Didn’t make it to this one
They also have a show called Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure. That was for sure a waste of 45 minutes of my life and free trip to the park. Halfway through I looked over at Bryan and said “What the hell are we watching?!” It was like a mixture between Glee, one of those awful comedy movies that make fun of anything pop culture related (example: Epic Movie, Dance Movie, etc…), and an MTV show. I mean, if you complete everything else in the park, I would suggest going, but if not, please don’t waste your time.
All-in-all, I had a really great time! It helped that it was free, but I think it would be great to get a big group of people together, drink some adult beverages (except for the driver, of course!) and head out to Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights 2010 to get in the mood for the spooky season ahead

Jess here again…
Been working a bunch of commercials recently. Not exactly the path I want to be on but it is paying the bills right now and it’s in an art department. So really, I can’t/shouldn’t complain.
Here are a bunch of pictures of the past commercials I’ve been working on. For those of you with cable be on the look out for these gems!
First up? This workout video. I was lead painter on this as well as helping to assemble the set and make it shoot ready.

Second image is a close up of the left side of the stage. Third – a close up of the right side.
Next up is a knife informercial I worked art department on. Above is a shot of the rig we had to set up for the chef to cut through all the pineapples.
Below: A picture of the display I set up.
Lastly for gigs? We have Mr. T and his oven he’s selling. I worked on finishing up the set on this one because it was overlapping with the knife shoot I was on at the time. I was still able to get a glimpse of the legend at an early morning strike.
That’s all for now folks! Let’s all keep those prayers up for more work to come my way. I have another commercial lined up for early October but nothing until then.
Keep it classy

Oh em gee! It’s been a month since anything has been posted to the QP Blog. We’re officially slackers. And we apologize…honestly freelancing is a crazy way to work. You get ridiculously busy and forget everything else in your life for awhile.
Jess here…
I was working consistently for the few weeks leading up to my trip back to the ol’ Chicago. I’m currently watching television with my mother on my last night here. I think subconciously I needed this trip. I felt anxious and not ready for it this time around. As soon as I got here…as soon as my allergies flared up from the humidity, I felt it. The pulse of this city and the family and friends that I still have here. Magical? Maybe…or maybe I just forgot how great this city was.
A week is a little short of a visit but I crammed in a lot. I consumed so much delicious (and bad for you) food I’m bursting at the seams. So many hugs and so many compliments. So many people wanting to hear about my life.
My life? It’s not that exciting. If I’m not working I sit in my apartment because I can’t spend money.
I was asked numerous times about the QP’s. Things like:
“You girls are excellent writers. Keep it up”
“You should really keep up with QP, I enjoy it”
I didn’t realize we had so many Midwestern fans!
I plan on posting an update on the things I worked on before Southwest Airlines whisked me away to the cool fall weather of Chicago. Pictures and all I promise to have it up this week.
I’m looking for a new adventure to warrant a detailed blog. So please if there’s something you’d want us to try out or something you’d like to see us do send us a message and we’ll try our best.
We’ll get back to updates all the time real soon!
